I love watching reruns of Sex in the City.
Even though the characters and situations are often over-the-top and hard to believe, the
reality is: when it comes to love and relationships, Sex in the City is telling the truth.
Take a look at Miranda; she’s an attractive,
successful lawyer living in New York City. She has money to burn, fantastic friends, and a healthy appetite for sex. Early in the
series, she meets Skippy, a young website designer who loves and adores her; in fact, he follows her around like a puppy. You can
probably guess what happens to Skippy…
Yep, he gets kicked to the curb.
Now, how easy do you think it is for Skippy to get Miranda hot
enough to chase after him?
Before I reveal the answer, let’s take a look at what Skippy actually does to get her back. He calls her
incessantly, tells her she’s the only one in the world for him, and professes his undying love and devotion.
Naturally, Miranda doesn’t answer his calls.
What happens is this: they both move on with their lives without any further contact.
Miranda completely forgets about Skippy until she runs into him on the street with a hot new lover on his arm. After the awkward introductions,
Miranda finds herself telling him he looks really good and asking him if he started working out. Trust me, Skippy’s body looks exactly
the same as the day she broke his heart.
Miranda waits about twenty minutes to call him.
Meanwhile, Skippy is getting busy with his
new, hot girlfriend; when he hears Miranda’s voice on the answering machine, he actually picks up the phone in the middle of sex.
Ouch.
You’ll have to watch the episode to see what happens next. This insane dynamic continues in a predictable and comic way.
Finally,
I’ll bet you’re asking, “what does any of this have to do with getting your ex back?”
It’s simple really. Here are the (simplified)
steps:
1. Make a clean break.
2. Apply the no contact rule.
3. Get on with your life, and take care of yourself.
4. Put yourself back
out there where you can see and be seen.
